The Canon EOS 40D is really a step up compared to the 400D! Faster maximum shutter speed, higher FPS, live view (not using, but good addition anyway), bigger view finder + coverage, bigger LCD, bigger size hence better grip. Damn! It’s fabulous! Previously the 400D was abit small for my big fat hand, but the 40D? Perfect Fit!

Did some testing!

Perhaps the single most important test when taking over a new camera/lens! Shoot against a blank white wall! This particular shoot was done at slow aperture (f/13) and post process in photoshop to increase brightness & contrast in order to expose any dust on the lens/sensor. Previously there was a speck of dust on the sensor at the lower right corner, but blew it away using a blower! :) Love clean white wall!

Next 2 shots just to test out it’s DOF

Purchase of the Month!

9 04 2009

It’s payday! Immediately spent 1/4 of my pay just like that today :)

Went to RELC (Hell of a trip, thank god i took taxi) to submit my UOL application. Thank goodness i was early! the moment i arrived; 5-6 persons immediately behind me… it’s just 1 counter at RELC settling everybody… damn.. can’t imagine when all the SIM students received their approval letter; it’ll be hell of a chaos at RELC…

Below was the camera bag i used for the pass 1 year… i either carry it as it is, via the handle or sling, or put the whole thing in my backpack… hence it’s not very convenient when i’m putting my stuffs in and out…

So, bought this today! Crumpler 7 Million Dollar Home!

cl7mdhbroInitally was kinda apprenhensive about it’s price. But after getting it, damn it! It’s indeed worth the price! The quality, design, comfort and storage capacity is unlike other camera bags i see! Damn! It’s such a nice bag that i’m going to get another 2 Crumpler when i have spare cash :P

My current Cumpler 7 Million Dollar Home will serve as my light-medium photography usage.

A Crumpler Western Lawn for my daily non-photography usage .

&

A Crumpler Karachi Outpost for heavy photography usage.

Hasty lens test! EF 50mm f/1.8 II

11 03 2009

Did a hasty test on my newly bought Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II prime lens! Plan to use this for my future portrait photoshoot!

Anyway; a little background on this lens; it is canon’s cheapest and lightest prime lens! weighting @ a mere 130g with a RP of just S$120!

Pro: Sharpness, Fast focusing, Light weight & Price

Cons: Prone to dusts getting into lens, build

All in all; i believe this is a very value for money purchase as i have read online that it’s quality is on par with lens that cost several times more than it! The pictures are a mini test i did to test out the “bokeh” factor of the lens… which is de main purpose i bought it for!

Shoot @ f/22 (Av mode)

1

Shoot @ f/1.8 (Av mode)

2

The lens box is in focus; look how out of focus or “bokeh” the door is

3

Another bokeh shot

4

What is a lens test without human subject? My mum! Look at how out of focus the dishes on the tray behind her are. A conventional lens with f/3.5 would probably shoot the whole picture in focus.

Testing concluded! Satisifed!

Punggol Adventure!

27 12 2008

Originally plan to go punggol to some photoshoot… before going, was researching the area.. realized got the “Little Nonya” publicity event @ compass point… so decided to drop by take a look… damn… i need to get a compact camera! DSLR is not design to work with crowd! poor vintage points too!

Hang around for half an hour… decided to go over to punggol… ok.. bad luck… tons of dogs on the field… 20+.. infact, i was chased by them!! WTF!! thank god I bought my tripod along!! And good thing those 4 legged bastards know the potent of the tripod!!! a few waves is all it takes for them to retreat back to their main grp! Anyway, decided to inch away from them… after all, even with the tripod.. no way i can win a fight with 20+ dogs!

So decided to hang around punggol MRT area and do some exposure bracket shots… some pratice for HDR! below are 2 of my fave pic from today’s effort!!
